Mr. Buck

I have a salt block near our house so I can take pictures of visiting wildlife. A few weeks ago, I captured a photo of a buck with the begining of a nice rack. Here's a picture from about 4 weeks ago.

The other morning the same buck came back to the salt block and I was ready.

My how his rack has grown. It looks like he's up to seven points. Mr. Buck didn't seem too worried and cautious.

Dang, a quick glance and you would think it's a Reindeer.
Oh yeah, Mr. Buck has a girl firend or two following him around! I wonder why?
Hopefully, Mr. Buck will be back and I can take a few more photos. Remember: What's in your woods, river, lake, or, bay!

I Yelled Snake!

The other day, I was walking on a beautiful Greenway Trail near Nashville. The trail was along side of the Cumberland River, Cheatham Lake. As I walked down the trail on a cool morning for July, I noticed a snake stretched out across the trail as my seventeen year old daughter was just passing beside the snake. I yelled Snake! Lucky for her, the snake didn't move. You know what? Teenagers are just not very aware sometimes.
Anyway, as I neared the snake, I could identify it as a poisonous snake, a Copperhead. The Copperhead was not moving and appeared to be a sleep. Checkout the snakes cool pattern.
The trail was busy with occasional folks walking and I was worried that someone might not see the snake and get bitten.
I took a stick and encouraged the Copperhead to move on into the woods. He was stubborn and did strikeout a few times, but after further encouragement, he decided to slither on into the forest. We moved on and you cannot guess what happen next.

We came upon a snake hunter that had discovered two Cottonmouths. He said one was a female and the other was a male (females are smaller). I questioned him about catching snakes and he said he loved snakes and liked to take pictures of them and then release them back into nature. The snake hunter told me that this area was loaded with snakes.
The male snake was much more aggressive than the female, so the snake hunter tossed the male back into the woods.
Actually this day turned out to be a very exciting day. We saw three wild, poisonous snakes in one day. Remember: What's in your woods, river, lake, or bay. Get out and find out, but be careful!

The Mississippi River Flowed Backwards!

In the last post, I posted a picture of a beautiful, naturally made lake. That lake was Reelfoot Lake, which is located in the northwest corner of Tennessee. This lake was formed in the early 1800s by a massive earthquake. The Mississippi River actually flowed backwards into this area for several hours to form the lake.

I took this picture of the lake. Interestingly, there are four creatures in the picture, can you spot all four? Click on the picture to enlarge. I call this my animal dyslexia picture because if you can't find all four, then you may have animal dyslexia and need to spent more time at a river, lake or bay.

Two weeks ago, I was in Samburg, in fact the photo above was taken near Samburg. I did a painting of Reelfoot Lake that came out great.
See more of my maps at www.LeoLakes.com, they make great gifts and can be customized.

Remember, get away from the big screen and get on a big stream, in order to avoid animal dyslexia. Hope you enjoyed.

A very beautiful and unique lake.

I went to a very beautiful and unique lake last weekend. This path leads to the lake. This picture reminds me of those forest path pictures you see in the mall that are suppose to reduce your stress. However, if you look at this picture long enough, it does make you wonder, just where does this path go?  So, can you guess the lake behind this lush foliage? Hint: Bald Cypress
In a future post I will provide additional pictures of this beautiful lake and reveal its name.

My most humorous cartoon?

Okay, I sometimes draw humorous cartoons to blow-off a little creative. It is debatable if they're actually humorous, but I like doing them and I often get comments, feedback and hate mail (just kidding). They're normally based on a subject and today I chose, BAIT, yes I said BAIT, mainly the types of bait. If you are a fisherman, you have likely used some of these. Anyway, I think you will find a big bang at the end. Enjoy!

A murder in the front yard?

The other morning in the ten acre woods, it was so foggy. The leaves were damp and the woods were quiet. I couldn't resist taking a few pictures.

I could hear Larry, Darrell, and Darrell far in the distance. Who is Larry, Darrell and Darrell you may ask? It's three crows that come by and look for food.

You see, I give a few "caws" when I toss out stale bread, peanuts, crackers etc...  within five minutes, Larry, Darrell and Darrell show up.
I have been doing this for the last five weeks and its become routine. If I don't toss out some food in the morning, they come near and start "cawing." I tell my wife "there's a murder in the front yard" when they show up. That's right, a flock of crows is called a murder. Anyway, remember: Find out what's in your woods, river , lake or bay.

Nottely Lake Decor Map

Just painted this map of Lake Nottely located in North Georgia. I've been near this lake, to a town called Blue Ridge, but never been to Lake Nottely. This area is beautiful, very hilly and mountainous. Oh yeah, I hide things in the waters, too.

The lake is about two hours from Atlanta, so it doesn't get the fishing pressure as a lot of lakes. If you look closely, you will see a red star, which I often place near the customers lake house or important place. Most folks like a name to be added, such as "Our Haven" etc...  I have over 200 lakes in stock and love to paint custom or personalized lakes, river and bays. They make a very special gift for the lake lover.

I don't hide snapping turtles, but I do hide a tiny mermaid/fish in the waters of all my lake map paintings that folks love to search for. I call my maps treasured maps because most folks have that special body of water that they treasure. These maps make great gifts for the lake house owner, lake lover, or fisherman. I have over two hundred on my website that can be purchased right from the site, or I can do custom and personalizes lake, river or bay maps, too. If you would like to see more and read about my treasured maps go to LeoMaps.com

As you can see, my maps make a great gift. To see more of my work click LeoLakes.com
